Why did I start this site?🤔

The original idea was simple: having an academic website helps with applications and, later on, the faculty job market. So I first planned an English site. I also enjoy tinkering with tech (even if I’m not exactly a pro 😅), and building the site itself was fun.

But writing in English turned out to be a hassle for me, so I pivoted to a Chinese personal blog. The main goals? To rant a little, post notes, and make my own reading easier online 📝. Since it might help someone else, I submitted the site to Bing so others can actually find it—otherwise it’s dial-up era vibes all over again 🌐. (For the record, Google is still acting up and won’t pick up my sitemap…)

As for “why not just post on a platform like Zhihu?”—I’m not a fan, honestly. I dislike a lot of internet culture, especially on Zhihu (and in those so-called physics “academic” group chats) where things that could be explained in a few sentences get buried under flashy jargon—as if tossing in some math or hep-th makes you a genius 🙄.

So I don’t want to debate research online. The internet, for me, is for relaxing and looking things up; academic discussions are better face-to-face 📚. This site mainly exists to please myself—if someone happens to get inspired along the way, even better 🌱.

Some Bugs

Translator

The translator will keep the selected target language for translation even if you view different pages on this site after choosing the target language. This can be quite convenient in some cases. However, some blog pages on this website are in English, and they may not require translation (after all, machine translation can sometimes cause unexpected errors). Therefore, I recommend that when you encounter obvious translation mistakes, first try switching to English to pause the translator and see if that helps.

Formula Rendering:

With optimization, the website automatically adds a scrollbar for horizontal overflow when rendering formulas. However, I’m not sure why all formulas are being considered as vertically overflowing (although this doesn’t happen in most cases), so I used the code overflow-y: hidden. This works in most cases, but in rare instances, vertical overflow does occur, causing formulas to be wrongly cropped, especially when encountering large summation or product symbols. Based on my tests, this bug is not critical. It will automatically disappear when the webpage is zoomed in, and I recommend that you (if you are using a regular laptop to view this blog) set your browser zoom to 110%-125% for the best reading experience. Sometimes, MathJax might not work due to your network connection.
